Whitson Strategies, a family/woman/queer-owned development and digital strategy firm, is seeking an Advocacy Marketing Specialist to help our clients met their digital and marketing goals and to work with us to develop our firm’s brand and thereby grow our business.

ABOUT US

Whitson Strategies is an up-and-coming consulting firm committed to helping advocacy organizations achieve their goals efficiently and effectively. Every challenge is different – that’s why we only accept a few projects at a time. This work style allows us to give individualized attention to each client, including research and strategies specifically tailored to their unique goals, audience, and capacity.

ROLE SUMMARY

This contract position is a great opportunity for someone eager to work with our climate justice and outdoor recreation advocacy clients while helping our small business refine its vision and grow toward it. You will be working to activate people to take action on a wide array of issues, from climate and public lands bills to voting “down ballot” for local issues. You will also be using your creativity to effectively promote the Whitson Strategies brand and work to current and prospective clients.

Full disclosure: you will be playing a leading role, including taking on client-facing responsibilities, while we are on parental leave at the end of year.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help ensure our clients’ online goals are met

  • Organic social media organizing and marketing

  • Copywriting for advocacy emails, newsletters, blogs, social posts, and ads

  • Grasp the strategy and tactics behind client projects and understand how your role will help implement them

  • Set up ad campaigns in Meta Business Manager, Google Ads, or with other media vendors and track client ad spends

  • Dive into the data and use the story it’s telling to inform decisions

  • Provide strategic guidance and technical support for our clients as it relates to their marketing goals

  • Dig into research around power mapping for our clients, potential funders for clients, or how we can update our work to keep on pace with new trends, etc.

Don’t check every box? Imposter syndrome and previous discrimination in a candidate’s experience gets in the way of applying for new things. Apply anyway. We’d love to hear from you.

ABOUT YOU

  • You align with our values and have a fierce hopefulness that climate justice can be a reality (that includes all intersections of the issue – racial justice, economic justice, etc.)

  • You are a systems thinker – you see how the smallest details can impact the bigger picture and are proactive about addressing those details

  • You love to stay organized, whether that’s in spreadsheets, jamboards, or in other ways

  • You set expectations from the start and don’t hesitate to be transparent when they need to be changed

  • You are comfortable using resources such as Community Centric Fundraising, Conscious Style Guide, Designing for Neurodiversity, Equity-Centered Design, WebAIM’s accessibility checkers, etc. to ensure our work engages as many people as possible and is responsive to our clients’ needs and interests

  • You can communicate effectively in English (Spanish is a bonus too!)

  • You are driven by curiosity and ask a lot of questions

  • Bonus: You know about climate and public lands policy or how different kinds of policies are made and passed

  • Bonus: You have worked on a political campaign or are familiar with the campaign cycle and rules

  • Bonus: You can produce media (graphics, videos, etc.) for clients’ emails, ads, and social media posts

  • Bonus: You are familiar with Every Action or other CRMs

WHY YOU MAY LIKE WHITSON STRATEGIES

We hold deeply our commitment to creating a space where everyone belongs as they are. Whitson Strategies will be made stronger through diversity and by what makes you unique. We embrace neurodivergence – it makes our work better, more creative, and more accessible. We don’t expect, nor want, you to have to bring your whole self to work. Bring what you need to get the job done well and care for our clients’ goals, then enjoy the rest of yourself for your own purposes. We’re small and have the time to give you the clear direction and guidance needed to get the job done well.

BENEFITS

  • $2,500 - $3,500 monthly – folks who have been doing this awhile may have the knowledge to do this work in fewer hours, some folks just starting out may need more hours – we will discuss this in the interview stage

  • Fridays off if you’d like (a 30 hour work week is full time for us)

  • You can be fully remote anywhere in the United States. If you happen to live near us in Denver, you’re also welcome to use our office in Congress Park

  • A refurbished Macbook Pro with a mouse and stylus + pad, Adobe Creative Suite login, and Motion Array login if needed for producing media for clients

TO APPLY

By Sept 12, 2022, please fill out the form below (click here if it’s not loading correctly) to tell us about your interest in this role, and any other compelling information that we can’t tell from your resume. If a resume and written answers sound exclusionary or boring to you, then upload what you think shows us you can get the job done. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

INTERVIEW & HIRING TIMELINE

  • 1 hour long interview with Whitson Strategies’ principal consultants/owners (questions will be emailed to you at least 24 hours before the interview)

  • Potential phone call for follow up questions

  • No spec work required if work samples are submitted

  • Our goal is to hire by Sept. 23rd
